The main uses and differences of channel steel and angle steel

Channel steel is a long strip of steel with a groove-shaped section and a channel-shaped section steel. It is a carbon structural steel for construction and machinery. Channel steel is mainly used in building structure, curtain wall engineering, mechanical equipment and vehicle manufacturing.

Channel steel is required to have good welding, riveting performance and comprehensive mechanical properties. The raw material billets for producing channel steel are carbon-structured steel or low-alloy steel billets with a carbon content not exceeding 0.25%. The finished channel steel is delivered in hot-formed, normalized or hot-rolled state. Its specifications are expressed in millimeters of waist height (h) * leg width (b) * waist thickness (d), such as 100*48*5.3, which means that the waist height is 100 mm, the leg width is 48 mm, and the waist thickness is 5.3 mm. Steel, or 10# channel steel. For channels with the same waist height, if there are several different leg widths and waist thicknesses, a b c should be added to the right side of the model to distinguish them, such as 25#a 25#b 25#c, etc.

Angle steel, commonly known as angle iron, is a long steel strip with two sides perpendicular to each other, with the difference between equal angle steel and unequal angle steel. The two sides of an equilateral angle are equal in width. Its specifications are expressed in millimeters of side width × side width × side thickness. For example, "∟30×30×3" means an equilateral angle steel with a side width of 30 mm and a side thickness of 3 mm. It can also be expressed by the model, which is the number of centimeters of the side width, such as ∟3#. Channel steel models do not indicate the size of different side thicknesses within the same model.

Angle steel is frequently used in various building structures and engineering structures, such as beams, bridges, transmission towers, lifting and transporting machinery, ships, industrial furnaces, reaction towers, container racks and warehouses.
